Vancouver Island Wedding, Day-After Shoot

Now that it’s off season and we’re fully settled in after our move to Prince Edward County, I finally have time to share some of my favourites shoots from the last year! First up is this gorgeous bride and groom portrait shoot on the rugged coast of Vancouver Island. Jett and Chris’ wedding in Victoria BC was postponed for a year due to the pandemic and ended up being my first destination wedding after Covid. I’m always happy to shoot Vancouver Island weddings since Victoria is my hometown and I find the scenery there so inspiring.

In many ways Jett was basically my ideal client. A creative old soul whose vision for her wedding photos completely aligned with the type of wedding photos I love most. Taken all on film, at a wind swept deserted beach up the coast of Vancouver Island, with the most beautiful sunset. Beaches are possibly my favourite places to photograph and one reason why I was excited to move to Prince Edward County!

Jett and Chris’ actual wedding at Hatley Castle was gorgeous as well, but they chose to do most of their bride and groom photos the day after their wedding. I always love doing day-after wedding shoots. My couples get to enjoy more time with their family and friends during their wedding, and can have their photos done at the perfect location afterwards!

I love working with clients who value photography and do what it takes to get great photos! When Jett asked me where we should take photos, I immediately suggested this beach up the west coast of the Island because it always gets the most perfect sunsets. It’s over an hour from Victoria, but Jett and Chris didn’t hesitate to agree. Jett also handled the freezing cold wind like a pro and always looked gorgeous. You would never guess that I was wearing a down jacket and wool hat while shooting!
