Oahu Bridal Session Inspiration

I’m so happy to finally share this bridal session that I shot in Oahu over the spring, which was just published on Hochzeitsguide today! Collaborative creative shoots like this are so important for recharging and finding new inspiration in between busy wedding seasons.

The inspiration for this shoot centered on the beautiful and unique landscape of the Hawaiian Coast. I love creating styled shoots when I travel since I find working in new landscapes to be so Such a nice change from our limited scenery here in Ontario. For this shoot I knew that I wanted a rugged coastal setting rather than the stereotypical tropical look usually associated with Hawaii. I fell in love with this little cove on the southern coast of Oahu, a little beach carved out of black lava rocks. It was rugged and dramatic but also very romantic. I decided to complement this natural setting with styling that was soft, delicate and feminine. I was also interested in the idea of creating a story through a progressive shift in mood. The shoot started out simple and pretty with the last little bit of sunshine, but the sun soon dropped behind the mountains, the wind picked up and the tones darkened for some more dramatic shots.

I put together a wonderfully talented team of both Toronto and Oahu based wedding artists to help with the shoot and they helped bring my vision to life perfectly! Oahu based florist, Debbie of Designs by Hemingway, created a delicate wild flower inspired bouquet with a flowing shape that matched the movement created by the wind. Calligrapher Paula Lee’s elegant invitation set used walnut ink and creamy handmade paper to tie together the organic tones of the rocks and sand. Blair Nadeau provided the most romantic veil, and I brought the perfect flowy Truvelle gown from Sash and Bustle over with me. Check out the credits at the end of the post to see everyone who contributed to this shoot!
